Belt size is NOT pant size.
To ensure proper fit:

Run a measuring tape outside your pants, through your belt loops.

Order the size that matches that measurement.
Belt size is typically several inches larger than waist size.
Due to thicker material and rigid construction, if you are borderline between sizes, sizing up is often recommended.
