Belt size is NOT pant size.
Rigger's belts typically measure 2-4 inches larger than pant size.
To determine proper sizing:

Wear your typical pants.

Run a measuring tape through your belt loops.

Place that measurement in the middle of the belt size range.
Example:
If your measurement is 38", order size 36-40.
